(LAND)

Throughout the country, within the cities, there is an army of people who have left their homes. Sometimes they have no name, no one sees them because their identity is an affront to their own lives and their motives, their only story is what they tell at that time. They are the wreck of a system that has failed them, reinventing the imaginary limits, that destroy, separate, protect and torture. They live transiting human borders. Trying to maintain the balance with all the psychological stress, their tenuous physical and moral integrity that they cross daily in the hope of returning. The intention of this work is to visualize this human process that is so difficult to see, which is embodied in the people in this photographs.

(BIO)

Sofía Ayarzagoitia was born in Monterrey, Mexico, 1987. With a photojournalism upbringing, her work has been featured on important contests and publications such as the XVII Centro de la Imagen Photography Biennial in Mexico City, Foam Talent 2016 in Amsterdam and PhotoIreland, she specialized in Author Photography at the Istituto Europeo di Design in Madrid.

Sofia is interested in photography that has a performative edge but derives from the documentary heritage. This performative edge is drawn from the empathic relationship that she shares with her subjects. Even if she never appears in the photographs, the work is always referring to her, not only through texts but also through this relationship. She is interested in the actions they do for her camera. A lot of her work revolves around intimacy and themes emerging from it, keeping the necessary link of art and life.
